Cold Snap

Cold Snap is another strain bred by Wyeast and is an all-time favorite for me. Focus North in Portland did a great job of cultivating her. They seem to have their pheno dialed in. Focus North uses organic farming methods. All the extra love and care they put into their cultivation makes a big difference in their end-product.

When breaking open the buds of Cold Snap, Focus North’s drying and curing techniques left the buds feeling more like a soft delicate fabric than a plant. In the jar she smelled mildly of sweet fruit underneath a strong floral sandalwood. The smoke is light and smooth. On the inhale the sandalwood flavor coated my palate. On the exhale the sandalwood lingers but the taste of Airheads cut through the backend.

The high from Cold Snap set in gentle and slow. Sometimes I forgot I smoked her until the high fully set in. She would relax my mind and made my body feel loose. In higher doses Cold Snap made my eyes droop and my mind lazy. This strain smoothed out anxiety and stress like butter – she soothed my body like a Shiatsu massage. And for these reasons, I have consumed more of her than any other strain over the past year. Her medicinal value is on par with Evan’s Creek’s Nepalese Kush, and I feel like that says a lot.

Cold Snap was a strain that had solid medicinal value for me. She was able to decrease pain, stress, depression, anxiety, ADD-like symptoms, and migraines. Cold Snap was able to alleviate mental and physical discomfort without gluing me to the couch. She had an innate ability to comfort me while allowing me to go about my day and remain fully coherent and engaged.

Wyeast did a fantastic job on these genetics and I’m hoping to see him come out with some amazing Cold Snap crosses in the future. I can’t think of a better commercial farm to be growing her in her hometown of Portland, Oregon.
